Unit Conversion Cheat Sheet: Length, Weight, Volume & Temperature

A recipe says 200 grams but your scale reads pounds; the contractor measures in feet and you think in meters; the weather app says 75°F and you have no idea if it's warm. Unit conversion is an everyday essential — here's the cheat sheet.

Length Conversions

UnitRelationship
Kilometer1 km = 1000 m
Meter1 m = 100 cm = 1000 mm
Centimeter1 cm = 10 mm
Inch1 inch = 2.54 cm
Foot1 ft = 30.48 cm = 12 inches

TVs and phones are sold in inches — remember 1 inch = 2.54 cm and you can estimate anything.

Weight Conversions

UnitRelationship
Tonne1 t = 1000 kg
Kilogram1 kg = 1000 g
Grambase unit for recipes
Pound1 lb ≈ 453.6 g
Ounce1 oz ≈ 28.35 g

International shopping uses pounds and ounces, baking uses grams — knowing 1 kg ≈ 2.2 lb covers most cases.

Volume and Temperature

Volume

1 liter (L) = 1000 milliliters (ml); 1 gallon (gal) ≈ 3.785 L; 1 US quart ≈ 0.946 L; 1 fluid ounce ≈ 29.6 ml. Imported engine oil and drinks often use gallons and ounces — convert to liters before comparing prices.

Temperature

Fahrenheit to Celsius: °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9. 75°F ≈ 23.9°C (pleasant); 100°F ≈ 37.8°C (hot).

Area and More

1 square meter = 10.76 square feet; 1 hectare = 10,000 m² ≈ 2.47 acres. Real estate uses square feet/meters, land uses acres/hectares.

Three Steps to Convert Anything

  1. Identify the units: know what you have and what you need
  2. Find the factor: keep the core relationships above in mind
  3. Use a tool: for anything complex or rarely used, let the unit converter handle it

Why Use a Converter

With so many units and factors, memorizing everything invites errors — especially temperature and the pound/ounce family. The unit converter covers length, weight, volume, temperature, and area: enter a value, get a precise result, move on.

Bookmark the unit converter — one tool for every conversion question, solved.
